To become a licensed real estate agent in California, you must follow these steps:
Meet the eligibility requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age, a legal U.S. resident, and meet the educational requirements.
Complete the required pre-licensing education: You must complete 135 hours of required pre-licensing coursework from an approved provider.
Pass the state licensing exam: After completing the pre-licensing education, you must pass the California real estate salesperson exam. The exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions, and you must score at least 70% to pass.
Submit a license application: Once you pass the exam, you must submit a license application to the California Department of Real Estate. You will need to provide proof of completion of the pre-licensing education and pass a background check.
Find a sponsoring broker: You must work under the supervision of a licensed California real estate broker to practice real estate in the state.
Complete additional training: Once you become licensed, you must complete 45 hours of continuing education every four years to maintain your license.
Note: The process of becoming a licensed real estate agent in California may change over time, so it's important to check the California Department of Real Estate website for the most up-to-date information.
